GIVE - A - Way Time!!!!

Okay guys and dolls I just noticed that I now have 100 followers, I was very surprised to see this! I have never been into popularity contests and have not asked anyone to follow me for any reason. The requirements for my Give-A-Ways have always been very easy. This one will be the same.

Because it is so close to Spring, (excuse me while I dance for a minute).# * & # * &.
Okay, that's better. The gift will be garden related. If you are interested in entering this Give-A-Way simply leave a comment with a lesson learned from your gardening experiences. Hopefully we can learn something from one another to help us become better gardeners.

Deadline to enter is.......This Friday, February 5th. All names will be tossed into a bowl for one of my girls to draw Saturday morning.

Good Luck!

Today I am Thankful (amazed) that fellow bloggers enjoy the content of my posts!

One of the best lessons I've learned from my garden experience is that even though something doesn't come up when (and where) you think it should, it doesn't mean that it's dead. I've had things appear 3 years after the date -- and what a wonderful surprise! It almost makes it's appearance sweeter.

It always reminds me to not give up on those I love - or on myself. As they say, it over till the fat lady sings!

Beware of putting your gardens over any underground plumbing. I did this last year and lost nearly all of the plants I had to move. This year that same area will be a container garden.

Congratulations with your first hundred Darla and thanks for offering a giveaway! I spent several days digging out zillions of crocosmia bulbs. My lesson: If they say- this plant easily naturalises, it can mean - invasive!

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. That's the lesson I've had to learn. Regardless of how fast I want something to grow or when I want it to bloom, Mother Nature is on her own schedule and I'm just along for the ride.

Congrats on your first hundred!

Congrats on reaching 100 followers. Thanks for the giveaway.
Garden tip: What ever spacing it suggesting to plant your plants apart, use it. It will save time later in having to dig up your garden and split plants so quickly.

Have a blessed day

Hi Darla, congratulations on your followers!

Tip: Always wear gloves and be sure you are up to date on your tetanus shots. My doctor told me about a patient who died from tetanus after a scratch from a raspberry cane.

Hurray 100!!!! Good for you!
Gardening experience...Hmmmm...let me see,
Take time with little people in the garden. I remember planting flowers with my grandmother and watching how she loved being out in her garden...even now that's shes gone, whenever I'm out there playing in the dirt, I fondly remember her and how she encouraged me to get my hands dirty!...xoxo~Kathy @ Sweet Up-North Mornings...

Congrats on having 100 followers!! One lesson I learned this past fall was: Do not over-water your Christmas Cactus or let it sit in water! My prettiest one was in a hanging basket and to make it sit up taller so the limbs had room to drape down, I set it in a tall container that had no drain hole. Each time I watered it the lower container held the water, which eventually drown and rotted the cactus.

Congrats on 100 followers. I now have 208---but don't really know alot of those people. Guess they are just 'lurkers'... Is that true with your list also????

One of the best things we did in our garden was to buy LIQUID FENCE (a spray) to keep the deer away from our flowers/yard. Since we have alot of deer here, the Liquid Fence is wonderful. Now if I could find a magic spray to keep the squirrels from digging up and eating our spring bulbs. Sigh!!!!!

Add me to your giveaway please!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Congrats on your milestone, I love your posts.

My garden hint, would be wear a really good sunscreen.

After 18 years in the nursery business, I have gardeners hands.

But my face isn't looking it's age as much. I always wore 60+ sunscreen, and forgot my hands. Or washed it off of my hands when I was working.

It is never too late, and skin cancer is a nasty thing to get.

Please don't include me in your giveaway as I would rather someone else win it. I'm really not into my garden right now.

Just wanted to say that I don't really like them either. Too sugary. I can stand just a little, and that's why I rip off their heads. Anything more and it's just to sweet.

100 wow!
The lesson I have learned is place your plants in the right spot the first time you plant them.(sun- shade)then you will not have to dig them up and move them. I had to do that with two plants this past summer.

The lesson I just learned TODAY is that the white streaks on my collard leaves are not just markings...they are caused by a worm!!! I must spray with something...and I wanted to do organic!!! Must do some research now!!!

Thanks for your cool giveaway idea!!!! Can't wait to see what it will be, for the lucky winner!!!

Congratulations Darla. I see you now have 101 followers now! I think the most important lesson I have learned is to read the plant label to see how big the little one gallon shrub will eventually grow to be - before you decide to plant it in a tiny area. Thank you for having another giveaway.

Hi Darla, I'm pretty sure your 'follow counter' turned over to 100 when I added myself to your list;-) I followed you a while ago and stopped but I'm back now. So what have I learned from my gardening experience? Hmm. Lots. One of the biggest things is not to be 'too bossy' with my plants, because they will do what they want to anyway! So I've learned to give them a little lee-way and be open to surprises that I didn't plan for or expect!

Lessons from my garden. Hmmm, how much time do you have? Okay, let's narrow it down. I have learned that no matter how much I grow or how much I study there is still something new to grow and something new to learn. It's a cycle.

congrats on 100 followers...the lessons i have learned from the garden are many....life is alot like gardening...patience is a key thing...let the land tell you where to plant.
happy february.

One of the best things I have ever learned is listen to the "old timers"!Those old gardeners know what they are talking about!

Hi Darla, congrats on 100 followers. We cannot be an official part of that, it is blogger only and wordpress doesn't do it, but we consider ourselves fans, if not followers. :-) Something learned, what an easy request for there is tons of stuff. Here's the first one that popped into my brain: Do not put your seedlings outside too early if they have been started indoors. Wait until well past your last official frost date according to your zone. This is a lesson learned last year the hard way, with 99% of those babied seedlings lost to a severe cold snap, even under the glass shower door cold frame.
Frances
thanks for this, I already learned something from reading the other comments. :-)

Darla
Thanks for dropping by my blog. I have enjoyed reading yours.
My hint even tho forced bulbs are not supposed to live outside after flowering I have always replanted mine in the garden and been rewarded with many blooms.

Darla: My best lesson, don't plant when there is snow on the frozen ground or until there is no chance of frost up North.

Congrats Darla, I'm not surprised at all you have so many followers. You have such a pretty garden and are so kind and encouraging!
Since I won your last two give aways you don't have to enter me if you want someone else to have a chance :)
Lesson learned is not to transplant anything you don't know about until you find out more about it. Many years ago I transplanted Bishop's Weed to a couple places in my garden and am still trying to remove it.

First I'd like to congratulate you on so many followers. (wish I could reach that point)
Gardening Tip: Be adventurous! Take chances ~ dont be afraid to go outside your zone and let nature take its course. Sometimes it works :)

The best lesson I have learned is ... plant what you love. I read it on a post from May Dreams Gardens. You probably read it, as well. It was so simple and straight to the point. I have planted things that don't look the way I wanted or I just didn't like it and have kept it growing in the garden. Well, now I either move it or give it to someone. Such a simple way of planting that makes perfect sense but not always practiced for some reason....Thanks for a fun post!

Congrats Darla!

One of the lessons I learned this fall was when fighting with the rose bushes and you and get scratched to make sure not even a small piece of thorn is in the scratch. I had a tiny piece of a thorn in a scratch on my forearm and it healed over. It got infected an I had an inch in diameter infected spot that was awful to get healed up. It was above my gloves so maybe we should were long gloves when attacking the roses. ;-)

I love the adage "Grow Where You Are Planted". I offer this advice many times to friends complaining of their circumstances.
In the case of my gardens, I’ve learned to love the things that will grow, where they will grow. An example is gardenia. I have tried both here and at my last house to grow this outside, in the ground. I’ve tried different areas of sun, shade, soil and different soil amendments. I cannot keep these lovelies alive outside. I now have one in a container and it blooms outside in the summer. It is now overwintering at my mother in laws. It survived 1 winter last year, we’ll see this time.
The other side of the coin is the many plants I never cared for much that thrive in my gardens. I’ve learned to love them all.

Congrats Darla! I am so excited about spring coming. I think my Dad is gonna make a garden here at my house so I am looking forward to that. I need the help. A lesson learned? Don't plant too early and don't plant too late!!!!

congratulation Darla on followers century, I wish you will be getting more attention by many others as fast as possible. I am in the business and deliver flowers to japan and other countries. I learned much from your blog and if I could be able to payback through any ways I will be pleased about it.

Hi Darla and congrats!

My biggest lesson learned gardening is that everyting works best in moderation.

Just because you love tomatoes deosn't mean you should plant 200 plants.

One zucchini plant will feed a large family, a whole row of them is never a good idea, no matter how much you like to see them growing.

Hi Darla,
How nice of you to host a giveaway!

I have found that red pepper flakes will keep squirrels from digging and eating bulbs. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than having to replace your plants! and organic!

A giveaway-woowhoo-ya gotta loveit...

I just told my sis not to give up on her wish for success with peonies...I have learned that they do not like to be planted too deep, and they do not like to be transplanted once established....

I always learn so much here so keep the information coming...valuable stuff girl.

Now, about my brother, of course I would dump him out of a hammock for a turn. Thanks for visiting.
God Bless Your Week
