A Beak Full..

This afternoon we had many hungry visitors at our bird feeder.

Chick-A-Dee
Goldfinch with a beak full of suet.
Tufted Titmouse (the seed is longer than his beak)
Red-bellied Woodpecker working hard....

to get a beak full.
And there will always be one picky eater in the bunch....see the seed the Sparrow spit out?

~~It's especially helpful to the birds to offer supplemental food and water in the winter~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I am Thankful for the entertainment provided by nature.
Hi Darla Dear, I love your bird photos. That red-bellied woodpecker really is persistent, isn't he?
You got some great shots of the birds.
We switched to Black oil sunflower seeds, and there is hardly any wastage at all. The chickadee's used to throw out lot's of the other stuff.
Isn't birdwatching the most fun?!! My daughter and I love to sit and watch the titmice. They'll spit everything right onto the ground, until they come to a peanut or sunflower. So funny!
The birds are delightful this time of year! You really got some great shots of them. Meredith at Great Stems provided a recipe for making your own feeders. If you haven't seen it, you might find it enjoyable. Merry Christmas Darla.
We love to feed and watch the birds. Have been breaking ice in the mornings for them. It was so dry this fall not much water for them.
What a great variety! And such good photos, Darla! I've been toying with the idea of feeding the birds. I have heard that once you start, you must keep it up for the sake of the birds. I don't want to begin until I'm really sure I'll stick with it...
Seeing your pictures and thinking of the joy of nature up close and personal, I'm looking at the options for outside our living room window (about the only place I'd have a good view from...)
Merry Christmas, if I don't get another chance to visit before :)
Hi Darla,
I enjoyed seeing your birds. Where do you get your suet? My grandson and I got Grandpa, (my husband) a new toothbrush, which he recently pointed out that Grandpa needs, some toothpaste, and a couple kinds of suet cakes from Shopko. We don't normally put suet out, but I want to try it this year. Once we put it out, does it have to be out all the time? Of course the answer to that could be different where you live from where I do.
Merry Christmas!
That very last picture. Those are the birds we have around here. Especially in the winter, the bright colored vibrant ones find warmer regions to inhabit. :)
We enjoy feeding the birds year round. We had the same Squirrel proof feeder you have but the raccoon’s burn the battery's. lol...
Merry Christmas...
I am most thankful for family and friends today...
Oh that seed spitting drives me nuts. Can't they just eat it all, or not pick out what they don't want? Luckily a lot of birds eat it off the ground so there's not much waste.
