Bloomin' Tuesday...

It's Bloomin' Tuesday over at http://msgreenthumbjean.blogspot.com/ . It rained most of yesterday 8/10, which we needed. Here is my offering this week.

Brazillion Plume Flower--Jacobina

Starting to purchase my fall/winter color for the garden.. Viola

Anna over at http://flowergardengirl.wordpress.com features plants from the Proven Winners Collection and is always testing something new in the garden. It was Anna that got me interested in the Proven Winners Plants. At the beginning of Spring I just had to have a Raspberry Blast Petunia, Proven Winners. Love this plant. During the heat of the Summer we cut our petunias back by 1/2 to 3/4 for a second show come fall. I had two hanging containers of the Raspberry Blast that I cut back.. This is how one is coming back....(similar to how it looked when purchased)

This is how the other one is coming back. There is even one in the container that is a lighter shade of pink than this one. Hmmmm....
I purchased my first Cleome at the end of last winter...It has been long gone. It was kind enough to reseed and now I have about 5 new ones to enjoy until a hard frost.
Peppermint Verbena is always a joy to my eyes.
Still have some stray blooms on the Purple Coneflowers after cutting them back as well.
We released the 5 Monarchs that hatched yesterday..you can see one of the 5 chrysalis' still in the cage to the right of the photo.
It's so much fun to actually hold a Monarch!
More fun when it's holding you!!

Have a Terrific Tuesday!!

Wonderful Monarch shots Darla! How much fun your family has had and what great nature lessons! A bumble took a ride on my sweater while I walked from one end of the garden to the other. Bumbles are gentle giants and he was content to hop on the next flower! gail

Those butterflies are so sweet. They are so light on their toes they tickle. Cute pics Darla. And yes, you need some asters.

I love cleome too and can always depend on it to self sow every year. Mine sometimes travels quite a way from the parent plants.

Fun shots of your butterflies.

We've had a slow steady rain for two days now. That's the best kind. It really soaks everything.
Your flowers are beautiful as usual.
And I love those monarchs1

What great shots of the flowers, and of course the butterflies with your kids.

Every time you mention frost I am taken aback. Don't you live in Florida, or am I mixed up?

Your flowers are still looking very happy. I'm having fun picking out Pansies now, glad the planting season isn't over yet.
Cute Monarch pictures!

Oh--how I love that last picture... I can tell how much your girls love those butterflies. What a neat experience for them...

We almost bought our Fall Pansies to plant this weekend but the supply at Lowe's wasn't very good yet. We like lots of colors and there weren't many colors yet. We'll try again.

Your flowers are gorgeous--as usual.
Hugs,
Betsy

Those Monarchs were so beautiful. I grew up in California and there was a field across the street where Monarchs would "hatch." So beautiful. Those pictures took me back...

Thanks for your nice comment on my post today. My dear friend needs all the help she can get. I love your pictures and I think that is wonderful you are hatching the butterflies. I have a lot of bf but only because of the blooming bushes. Sounds like you are a serious flower cultivator.

That's no surprise that they came back as something similar or totally different. Looks like you can tell what PW cultivar was crossed with what other PW cultivar. The new creations in your containers are very pretty too.

Maybe you should send pics to PW and see if you created an entirely different cultivar. Ha! You'd make a lot of money.

This whole Monarch journey has been fun to watch---great shots of your kiddos and especially of the Monarch holding your daughter.

it is all so wonderful. Thanks for keeping me in a flower filled world! A few years ago we had a huge amount of monarchs come through this area...it was just strange to see clouds of them flying around in my garden...almost like flocks of birds!

How long does it take the monarchs to hatch...or whatever they do? My mom has them everywhere at her house...and we were wondering how long it took

I just love seeing those butterflies. So beautiful.

love the fact you and the kids can get so close to the butterflies.
i had cleome for the first time this year and really loved it.
happy autumn.

DP- it takes 9 - 14 days from the time the chrysalis forms to when the monarchs emerge. The chrysalis will turn dark green, then black and you will be able to see the wings inside the chrysalis. Usually the morning after they turn black they will turn transparent crack on the sides opposite the necklace and emerge in less than a minute...

Omgosh, I will have to show your photos to one of my twin boys! He is always trying to catch a butterfly! Beautiful pictures!

The monarchs are amazing creatures. I thought I'd pop over from Fishing Guy's place.

The "blog with integrity" thing looks intriguing. I think I'll check into it.

Congrats on the win at FG's.

Wow, Darla~~ I love your Monarchs. It must be a bit melancholy to say goodbye. Your flowers are looking fab!

I almost forgot, Darla. I'll be on the lookout for Coleus 'Oxblood.' The nursery that I frequent has tons of varieties for cheap so there is little guilt in experimenting.

WOW!! As usual, your blooms are marvelous, and those butterfly moments are inspiring:)

The Butterfly's just hanging around like that is amazing. Is it because you all have been so close with them since they were Caterpilliars?
