Fertilizer Friday

It's time for FF over at http://tootsietime.blogspot.com/ . Drop by and see her beautiful gardens and containers, she amazes me with the things she grows from seed!

Does anyone know the name of this plant? It was given to me by a neighbor last year, spreads a little but not so much that I can't keep it where I want it. I actually saw a hedge of these in town yesterday and they were beautiful.

UPDATE: This is Clerodendrum bungei, Glory Bower, Cashmere Bouquet, Mexicali Rose or Mexican Hydrangea. 4 - 6 Ft. tall, zones 7a - 11, sun to shade deer resistant. It requires LITTLE water.. Some call it invasive. I have little problem pulling up the unwanted ones. I think I am going to put it in an area of the woods and let it take off!
It's in a mostly shaded area.

Monarda
Phlox "Nikki"

Hibiscus is beginning to bloom. Those blades are glads that came up around and through it.
I'm thinking I want more of this Red Fountain Grass, I like how it's a smaller clumping grass.
Zinnias

Cosmos
Althea "Rose of Sharon"
To get the most out of Dahlias deadhead them regularly and cut the bottom stems so they get good air flow and to keep the pests to a minimum.

Volunteer Zinnia right between the rocks.
I have Carnation buds from seeds. It's been a long time since I grew Carnations and I am really excitied.
Marigold

I hope everyone has a blessed and safe weekend.

Today I am Thankful that the girls are on vacation with their Grandparents for a week. They are going to an old family farm house with no heating or air and no TV. I also pray for travelling mercies for them and those around them.

I love the color of the phlox.

Your zinnia are beautiful. My sister tells me hers grow like weeds but I never seem to have luck with them. Maybe need to try planting in a different place!

They all are so pretty. Sorry I don't know your mystery plant. Looks like it could be related to a Joe Pye weed maybe. Just a guess.

I have that same Monarda coming up thru my pink hibiscus.

Loved them all ... gorgeous selection. I'm a big fan of your orange Zinnias ... I have a few of those myself this year. The Phlox is very pretty ... as are those Dahlias. Sorry, I can't help with the identification.

Darla--I just have to know where you got that clock. It would be perfect for my granddaughter. Sounds like your girls really are "roughing" it! My daughter is letting me take my grandson on a vacation later this month and I can't wait.

Love all the blooms but your monarda really looks good. I've been contemplating a place for some in my garden.

I love all of your blooms too. I don't have a clue as to what your mystery plant is.

Enjoy your week, and pretty soon you'll be having a nice reunion with your kids.

Do you think your mystery plant could be this? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1253/

I appreciate the dahlia hints. I was gifted some from the kids for mother's day and I haven't ever grown them.

My cosmos is up and growing. I think I have had one bloom. Mostly white with pink and deep red in throat.

The Monarda looks nice. Mine is up and ready to bloom but no blooms so far.

Your photos are really nice to see,
and your photos make me smile
because I can look and see
what my flowers ought to be.

We had a great specimen of that Clerodrendron growing in the gravel at the nursery. Each spring, I would make sure that it was still there.

I really like them.

Hi Darla, I'll be curious to see how your girls enjoy their visit to the old farmhouse... Sounds wonderful to me!!!!! Bet they love it.

Love your Zinnias and can't wait to see the Carnations when they bloom. Dahlias are great--but more work than others.

Hugs,
Betsy

Darla, Someone beat me to it, I see. It's Clerodendrum bungei. I've got lots of them. They die back to the ground most winters then spring up in other parts of the garden. People don't like it for that reason, but I love it. The foliage is just as fabulous as the flower although it has that distinctly peanut butter scent that some detest.

Great flowers, girlfriend!

Darla the red Fountain Grass is so pretty. Just look at those hibiscus blooms that will never bloom in my garden LOL! So sad. Your mystery bush is a pretty thing. Your Bee Balm is so big and pretty. I am bummed out because i noticed today mine is getting mildew already. Maybe I should just appreciate all those orange lilies LOL! Have a great weekend!

Your garden is as beautiful as ever. I am constantly amazed by the wide variety of blossoms you have in your yard and garden.
It sounds as if your daughters are going to have quite an adventure. Enjoy your week.

Got to ask...
first let me say I adore your cute little brick edge around your flower beds. I've tried that. So my question is - Do you spend the entire day pulling grass out of your flower beds? My grass is vigorous, and dang determined to jump over any barrier that I lay down. Wish my beds looked like that. See, I can only show close ups of my flowers... if I were to show you a photo of the entire bed, you'd see just how many weeds I have. Green with envy in Georgia!

I just love visits in your garden. The Red Fountain Grass is pretty. Is it the same as Purple Fountain Grass? We have that here. I hope you are able to keep cool. Tomorrow is supposed to be unseasonable cool, so I am taking advantage by working the garden :-)

You know, Darla, this is what I love about seeing your photos and any others that Floridians post. It's like everything is on STEROIDS! One plant grown here in Ohio compared to the same plant grown in Florida makes them look like two different plants! Beautiful blooms!

Gorgeous blooms, I love the Monarda in the tree circle. So striking! :)

I like that fact that you have a range of colors growing instead of a shade of a single color. Wonderful blooms!

Wow, what beautiful flowers you have. I've never seen the first one. This is the first year my zinnias are doing terrible. Enjoy your free time.
