What A Weekend...(snake photo here)

Saturday morning started around 2 a.m. sick child...(still sick this morning)..after getting her somewhat settled I ventured outside to happily find the garden visitors busy.

Just when I was about to feel better about the day I saw this..
My husband chased it into the Crocosmia, needless to say I still have not ventured in that area. It's a harmless Garter snake BUT a snake just the same. The only thing that makes it a little better is that he will eat slugs.
Today I take my Dad for his Cardio recheck from his heart attack. Friday I found out that I will have to have surgery on my elbows, (one at a time). June 24 is the day. They have told me that surgery on the elbows for tendonitis is not a pleasant surgery. They have to cut out the bad tendons, drill holes in the bone, stretch the remaining tendons and sew them to the bone. Two weeks in a brace, 6 weeks no lifting and about 3 months for full usage of the arm.
They gave me 4 prescriptions. One for the day and night before, (xanax), two pain meds and one for tummy issues after. I have a lot of things to get done in the garden before this surgery.
Not only in the garden...my 25 year old daughter is getting married on October 24th and I'm in charge of ordering bouquets and most of the centerpieces and other decorations...! I wanted to do a post just on the wedding and I may still, it just seems that I'm spinning around in circles. Oh and a neighbor dropped by last night to see if I would water their flowers for 10 days while they go out of town...

I appreciate any good thoughts and prayers that you would like to send our way. I'll be visiting as many of you as I can.

Today I am Thankful to be helpful...

Oh Darla, I'm so sorry you have to go through the surgery. I'm sure once everything is over and you are healed, it will be worth it though. I can't wait to hear more about the wedding! I'm know it will be beautiful. That snake looks familiar by the way. I almost stepped on one just like that in my back yard last week!

Dear Darla,

With all you have going on, I'm so sorry your are going to have to have the elbow surgeries! With that, your Dad's problems and your daughter's wedding, your whole summer will be gone.

We don't get to choose and plan lots of the things that happen to us, but it will all work out in God's own timing.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you!

Love,
Dorothy

Oh Darla I hate to hear about your arm sweetie. I hate snakes too - any kind. When I go into the open shed out back where my lawn mower is stored I see snake markings on the dirt. Eewww. Your daughter is 25. I'm sure it will be a beautiful wedding. You and your father will be in my prayers.

We are having a heat index today of 105-110 with a temp of 95. Summer is here. With heat index that hi I won't be doing anything outdoors.

Your surgery doesn't sound very fun, but hopefully in the long run they'll feel much better so you can garden for many, many years.
I'll definitely be sending you thoughts and prayers, you have a lot going on now.

Hi Darla, I'm SO sorry that you have to have surgery. But--since I've been through so much pain with my knee this past month, I will say that you need to have the surgery. Yours seems much more complicated than mine did though---so take care.

I don't like snakes either... Someone showed a bunch of pictures on their blog of a huge snake getting into the nest of a Northern Flicker.... So SAD.

Hope your child is okay--and hope you don't get the 'bug'...

Keep us posted...
Hugs,
Betsy

Dear Darla: You have so many things going on in your life right now, sick child, ill father, surgery and daughter's wedding! I am so sorry that you have to go through this surgery, but I am sure it will do you better in long run. Best wishes to your surgery and speedy recovery afterwards! Your garden looks so beautiful, and I can feel why you are kind of worried about the garden. Try not to stress out yourself too much, take care!

I like all your pictures, except the ones of the garter snake. Well, ok, those two pictures were good too. I just cleaned our picnic pavilion. I removed all seat covers AND cushions cautiously. I didn't find anything unpleasant on or under the pavilion. Best wishes to you and your family as you have your surgery, during your recovery time and as you prepare for your daughter's wedding.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going to have surgery. I'll help you in anyway I can. Your snake was in my backyard last week (or one just like it); we thought it was a poisonous snake--glad to hear it's just a garter snake. Your garden looks beautiful. Doris

Hi Darla, that surgery does not sound pleasant. I hope it won't be as bad as it sounds.

With this wedding coming up, you have to be 100%.

I can't peacefully coexist with snakes either. Ick!!!

you were doing great with the butterflies, then came the snake.

Sorry to hear about the surgery. Maybe thoughts of your surgery will make me take breaks in the middle of my knitting and needle felting.

Darla, so sorry to hear about the pending surgeries. Sounds painful, but lets hope that things get better soon.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding, sounds like a lovely time.

Poor little snakey, are you the one that is terribly afraid of them? I remember one comment on my blog, LOL.

Darla: Wonderful captures around the yard, even the snake. I do hope all goes well with all that needs done. You will have to be running on a full tank to get it all done.

Your garden is growing beautifully and will be absolutely lush and wonderful when you are able to return to your duties in it. I will pray for all the best in the surgery and quick recovery. You'll have lots of time for making wedding plans and when you're all healed you'll be ready!

Hi Darla,
You should come to Nebraska and let Dr. Dolf Ichtertz do his noninvasive outpatient surgery on your elbows. I had a very painful tennis elbow, and after lots of different treatments, including cortisone shots, I had his surgery. He just did a small cut on the elbow, and I don't remember what he exactly did, but I'm thinking it was a release of some kind. There was a lifting restriction for awhile, and the pain did not totally go away for a few months, but it was greatly reduced. I'm so thankful I had it. It's been a couple years, and the pain has not come back.

You do have lots going on there. I hope things are going alright with your dad and the wedding plans.

Your flower beds are looking great. I'm proud of you for not killing your snake.

Dar said...

Wow, Darla, you too, huh? Sounds like mine was the same as Corner Gardener Sue's, a release, not as invasive, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. What a difference from my arm and hand sleeping constantly and the twangs. All Gone. Good luck to you.
Check out my sisters snakes...eek...but at least friendly ones on CherShots.blogspot.com...I hate those kinds of surprises too.
Have a great day figuring it all out. Good luck on your surgeries and my prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. Garden carefully. It will still be there for you.
