Bloomin' Tuesday...

So I don't get thrown out of the gardening loop, I'll take a break from posting wedding prep and show a few things still blooming in my gardens.

We are seeing so many butterflies and it is just beautiful to observe them fluttering from one flower to the next. I did capture the beautiful Buckeye, it always makes me think of Tom over at http://thefishingguy.blogspot.com .
The Narrow Leaf Zinnias have put on a wonderful display through our hot dry summer.
(oops, wedding mums) I do love this color.
Plumbago...can I prune this back? Is so, when?
It doesn't mind hot and dry conditions either.
The Sunburst Dahlia is still putting out blooms here and there.
Love the white tips.

Today I am Thankful for http://msgreenthumbjean.blogspot.com for hosting this meme. I believe it was one of the first meme's I ever participated in when I began blogging.

Darla, you consistantly have the PRETTIEST flowers! The Buckeye is so colorful! Hope you are not over-doing yourself with all that work!

Your dahlias always get me. They are so pretty. My one has bitten it. I'm saving the pot with it in there hoping it may revive come spring. But...I don't know a thing about growing dahlias.

Beautiful. I love the dahlia. I got my first one the other day. It is yellow. I hope to plant more next year. Oh and by the way, I love hearing the wedding plans.

Love the butterfly! Your garden still has a lot blooming. Your dahloas are lovely! My dahlias have come back to life with the cooler weather. They are such a pretty flower, I will miss them once we have our first frost!

I really like your beautiful dahlias. You also got a great picture of the buckeye. I'm glad you could sneak the wedding mums into this post.

They are all so lovely Darla! I got a little worried last night when I was at my daughter's house because I saw an ambulance pass by with lights and siren. I guess it must not have been you!

Darla your Dahlia is great, the white tips make is so delicate looking.
What a great shot of the butterfly. I didn't get one picture of any this year. They were all to fast for me.
Your flowers are still looking great too.

Darla: Love the butterfly but have never seen one in Buckeye land. I would really love to have one visit next year.

Wow, that is a great shot of the buckeye! I've never been able to capture it in its full glory. I'm with NanaK on the dahlias. Growing dahlias in Florida is a mystery to me, though it was easy-peasy up in Atlanta. I do have a black-leafed variety with maroon flowers (forgot its name) that seems to come back each spring.

As for plumbago, I'd wait until after your last frost in spring if I were you. Don't do much pruning to my plumbago, though sometimes I'll take the shears to it when it exceeds the six-foot mark. My neighbors keep them sheared in spring and summer, which I think looks really nice.

Well---I enjoy seeing your wedding preps--but I also enjoy seeing your gorgeous flowers.... SO PRETTY....

Our butterflies and hummingbirds have gone south to YOU... Don't you just love the Buckeyes???
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi, Darla ~ Plumbago responds very well to pruning during the spring/summer months. It bears flowers on new wood. I cut mine back and it will go crazy with blooms.
Winter: In zone 8, it will stay green all winter and I cut mine back in the spring, so it will produce fresh foliage. I have a couple of them. Pretty post, by the way! I refer a lot to the Aggie Horticulture site for info. They have a lot of info on the Plumbago.

Beautiful pictures, all of them. The butterfly is amazing, like everyone else said. I've never seen one down in our neck of the woods.

I love the wedding prep posts too!

God sure created some beautiful creatures! It's such a treat to be out with the butterflies with or without the camera.

I love your blooms, too. I think I should plant more dahlias next year. The one medium sized bloom one hasn't had many flowers this year. Maybe it doesn't get enough sun.

I don't believe I've ever seen one of that particular kind of butterfly before!

Your garden still looks SO lovely. We haven't nearly the # of flowers left that YOU do!

Wonderful flowers from you again Darla, but your butterfly is beautiful.

Gorgeous blooms in your garden this week Darla. I love that Plumbago, that's one I need to add if for the drought tolerant feature alone. :)

Those Buckeyes are just gorgeous aren't they? Your photo brings out all of their colors beautifully.

I wish I could grow Plumbago! I've killed it every time that I've tried it, and it's such a lovely Carolina blue.

No one would throw you out of the gardenbloggers loop! Love the buckeye and you have a great capture! I love hearing about the weddin! I have a son and won't be included in these kind of preparations, so, I am loving it! gail

I think that plumbago flowers have true blue color. Then, why nobody is so excited about it as they are excited about a blue poppy?
Darla, thanks for your comment on my last, Italian swimming pool, post. I also love that picture! I can't forgive myself that I didn't use my chance and didn't swim there during our September trip!

That butterfly is just stunning! I've never seen one like that. They must not live in my area.
