Fertilizer Friday --

It's FF over at http://tootsietime.blogspot.com drop by and see what other gardener's are sharing today. Rescued Stock for .50 a piece are beginning to bloom in the greenhouse.
One of my trays of seedlings seem to be doing fine in the greenhouse.
Dame's Rocket
Diamond Frost Euphorbia is really greening up . . .in the back left is a rooted Mexican Bush Sage.
African Daisies are very happy in the greenhouse.
Here are the African Daisies that I rescued. Happy as well. To the left is an Ornamental Potato Vine overwintering, and to the right is a Brugmansia cutting that has rooted.
This is where the majority of our bird activity happens. I'm standing in the driveway, as you can tell our home is at the bottom of a hill..to the left of the Pear tree the birdseed has killed the grass. It is an eyesore to say the least. Today I set out to dress it up a bit while leaving it bird friendly. I started digging some holes around the tree, far out enough as NOT to damage the roots.
Then I dug up the Liriope Grass from around the mailbox, boy have I been wanting to redo that area too. I planted the Grass and then set out newspaper, wet it down good.
Because I didn't have a truck load of mulch sitting around anywhere, I raked up some leaves...which I seem to have many truck loads of them laying around and put on top of the newspaper.
I then added a couple of rocks and a small bird bath. The birds have seed, suet, sock, fresh water and soon worms!

It will be a very low maintenance area and reward us with lots of entertainment. I believe it will compliment the Pear tree come Spring. We have another Pear tree to the left of this one a little higher on the hill that I will be doing the same thing around.

Today I am Thankful for being able to work/play in the yard!!

Lucky you, to have a greenhouse. I like your plastic knife markers, I'm always on the look out for venetian blinds on garbage day and cut them up for plant names for seedlings and divisions.
The area around the tree cleaned up nicely and looks natural too. By the end of winter, I'll have about a foot deep large area of sunflower seed shells under one feeder and will rake them up in spring to throw in the compost.

You sure are getting good use from that greenhouse. I love seeing your rescued plants doing well. You will have lots of pretty flowers to plant out when spring arrives.

What you did around the pear tree was a great idea. I bet it will be beautiful to see those trees in bloom.

Sounds like you have had some great weather up your way. We have too. A little cooler predictions this coming week but not freezing for here. Sure hope you miss another freeze too. We've had glorious rain!

Have a great time in your garden!

Rescued stocks? You mean there are such items on sale? They are so beautiful, the look like premium stocks now.

What a impressive makeover around your pear tree! I can almost see it beaming with pride.

Why would you want to cover up your tires? You don't fancy the look too?

What a great idea Darla. Your Liriope grass makes a pretty border for your bed. Your plants look like they are indeed loving the greenhouse. What a pretty Stock plant. That would be the only way I would ever have anymore Stock plants would be to buy them already grown. They took forever to seed and grow for me. I had blooms just before frost.LOL!Have fun playing in the dirt.

G'eve Darla ~ I love the newbies in the greenhouse. I had a peek at Miss Impatiens in my kitchen & she's a'bloomin'! I was tickled, made my sicky day so much better.

What a great change for the pear tree. The tree is elegantly dressed, the birds will entertain you & enjoy the sauna.

Have a beautiful weekend ~

Darla,
Always nice to be outside this time of year getting something done in the garden. And you've assisted the wildlife one step further with their new birdbath.

Your greenhouse must be so rewarding with all those pretty flowers enjoying the bright sun and warmth inside their cozy quarters.
