Bloomin' Tuesday...Wind & Rain!

Cleome Butterfly Bush
The Morning Glory on the left of the lattice has had enough rain. The Hyacinth Bean Vine to the right seems to be loving it.

The Clematis has made it to the top of the lattice on the right, Blackeyed Susan Vine on the left.

Four O'Clocks

Gerbera Daisy
Candy Cane Zinnia
Catherine over at http://agardenerinprogress.blogspot.com/ here are a few of the Torenia that I planted over 3 years ago. (remember I only planted a cell pack of nine) This isn't the only area in this garden where they have reseeded. I have also moved over 100 of them to other gardens this year.
For more Bloomin' Tuesday http://msgreenthumbjean.blogspot.com/ !

I reported yesterday that we received over 2 inches of rain Sunday Night. Yesterday not only did we receive over an inch of rain we had 60+ MPH wind. A large Oak Tree fell across one of our busy streets and landed on a car with a young teenager and her father in it. Sadly I report the girl did not make it and the father is in critical condition. We also had another tree fall on a mobile home splitting the home in to. The woman just had an estimate about 6 months ago to have the tree removed.
This is how it looked around our yard last evening.
We just needed one more small harvest of peas to go with dinner.
What a husband!
Remember the Aloe Bloom I was so proud of?
This poor Cactus has survived many wind storms.
Birdbath that had a container in it.
Full Sun Garden was kicked around.
Double Shepard's Hook was gently laid on it's side, one container is balanced on a small trellis while the other container is sitting on the ground.
This Salvia landed smack in the middle of the Walking Iris.
Amaranthus was blown around a bit.
and both of my Guara's look like this.
Those of you familiar with the afternoon Thunderstorms in Florida know exactly what I'm posting here. It honesty felt like a Hurricane. On Sunday night at one of the local Gas Stations the entire awning was laid on it's side in the parking lot, I'm talking the large awnings that cover about 12 or more pumps!
No more Rain Dancing Please!

Glad you got rain, but so sorry about the wind damage. We still need rain here. I like those yellow four o'clocks!

Yes Darla, you can stop the rain dancing now! What about that house that was completely destroyed when lightning hit it on Sunday night? That is so scary. I have always been terrified of lightning. I was also too scared to drive down Old Bainbridge Road yesterday afternoon so I took N. Monroe instead!

Florida thunderstorms can do some damage; however, any tree that falls during a storm should have been properly pruned long ago. A REAL hurricane knocks down homes.

What beautiful flowers you have. I'm sorry to hear of the young girl and her father.. How sad for the families.. Sounds like quite a storm. Your hubby is a dear to get out and pick the peas... I had totally forgotten about four o'clocks!! They are the sweetest flower.. Thanks so much for the visit. I hope this finds you doing better today... hugs ~lynne~

The candy cane zinnia is beautiful. Sorry to hear about all the damage and injury from the rains and wind. So sad. This has been a strange year weather-wise all over the country.

your photo of that candy cane zinnia is very pretty...never seen one like that before!

We need the rain but not the wind that came with yours. I hate to hear the sad news about the little girl.--Randy

Glad you got some rain! But sorry for all the wind damage. And especailly about the teenager and her father. Sad.
Hopefully your plants will stand back up with a little help.
We haven't had rain here in almost 2 weeks. Not a drop. And none expected.

wow, what a storm you had...glad everyone is ok...the plants will grow back...I know because we had a horrible ice storm this winter and we're still working with damaged trees...great blog...

Goodness what a price to pay for the rain! All we got was a nice breeze Sun, and gentle rain Mon, it didn't amount to even a .10 of an inch-I'll have to go water today. Stay safe:)

Sounds like you had some severe winds. I hope you don't get that kind of storm very often. We will occasionally get a storm here that altho they aren't tornadoes, they will uproot trees and cause quite a bit of damage.

I'm hoping everything in you garden will recover.

This weather that you are getting is unbelievable. Sorry for all the damage that it has caused. I think weather everywhere is upsidedown this year.

I lived in the Tampa bay area as a kid and the afternoon thunderstorms always drove us inside for a rest! Your flowers are wonderful...even though they've been kicked around and wind blown! Take care....gail

Send the rain to my house Darla my flowers can use it. I have been having to water the whole garden. Your vines are liking it though.

Teresa said...

Send those rain dancers to Georgia please!! Your garden is always beautiful. So sad to hear about your neighbors.

George said...

Darla, you have my permission to send all your rain up here -- we need it. But you can keep the high winds. There are just too many trees around our house. Considering what it has been through, your garden looks great.

Geez, we are having almost 3 weeks of rain but I will take it over what you had. Prayers for the young lady and her father.

Dang!!!!!!! That bird bath is pretty hefty, so that wind was something! I am so sad to hear about the father and daughter, that is just beyond words! Terrible

The storm sounds very familiar, but this time it didn't make it to my area. Thank goodness gardens usually bounce right back even after a storm like that. I love the candy cane zinnia! I've never seen those before!

The candy cane zinnias are fun. I like all of the different vines you have growing together. I hope everything recovers from the storm.

Sorry about your beautiful flowers and plants. They will pop back. Bad about so much damage and the trees falling.
When fall gets here I would like so of your seeds if you do that again.
Glad you like my silly shoes.

I still love all your blooms. Thats allot of Torenia. We have had more than out share of rain too. Most of the seed I planted was destroyed before it had a chance. I am glad I kept some back to try again at another time. Have a great week.

Sorry Darla that you are having too much rain. The parched properties everywhere in our area look so pitiful. The candie cane zinnia is a show stopper. Just love it.

What a bad storm! So sad to hear about that tree hitting that car w/ that father and daughter. Glad you are okay. I think we are getting your weather today - it's getting dark and windy. Love those Gerberas - my plant container of them died a couple weeks ago - either the bunny or my neighbors goat munched on them - they were missing several blooms.

Kate and Crew said...

Oh good grief! That storm really kicked your garden's butt! I'm glad you're able to recover - we've been wiped out by several storms. Glad you got some rain, but you can have too much of a good thing, right?

Susie said...

Oh my goodness you guys did have a lot of wind. Your poor plants. They will probably return to looking normal in a few days.

Darla: Well the old story about when it rains it pours certainly cam your way. I heard some places got 5" all at once. Sad about the damage and the little girl.

How sad for the family of the girl; I hope her father pulls through. What a freak of happenstance and how tragic.

Looks like you did have quite a storm.

Wonderful shot of the pink cleome. That is one of my favorite annuals.

That is some wind & rain you've been getting. Sorry to hear about the father & daughter. Your blooms are gorgeous inspite of the weather you've been getting. Could you send us some rain, it's bone dry here.

Sometimes we forget to stop the rain dances when we should. We have had 2 wonderful days now without rain. Sunday evening was our last storm.

I'm loving the Candy Cane zinnias, and guess what? I started from seed here this year, so I should have some soon to enjoy.

Tatyana@MySecretGarden said...

Sorry for all the damage people got in your area.
As for the flowers, don't you like cleome? Self seeds, tolerates heat, blooms last long - that is why I love it. Also, thank you Darla for your nice comments on my blog!

Beautiful flowers! I love the zinnia. So cute! Your poor garden suffered didn't it?? But plants are amazingly resilient. Things will look better soon. ~~Rhonda

So sorry to hear you such a bad storm. It's sad to hear about that family and the little girl. We had a Nor'Easter last week - which kind of feels like a mini hurricane with strong wind gusts. My entire garden has still not recovered. Everything is "kissing" the ground. I'm too familiar with that kind of weather. -Jackie

Woah, that must've been a strong storm to knock so many things over! Very sad about the girl in the car.

Your flowers still sure look pretty. I can't believe the Torenia, it must love your garden! I finally found 1 to buy and put in in a pot in a shady area. Maybe it'll reseed some like yours!

Hope the weather improves and no more storms for you!

Darla ~ I am so sorry you had such nasty weather and I'm sorry about the young girl who died and her father who is in critical condition and the lady who lost her mobile home. Florida storms can be really bad at times.

A couple of weeks ago on a Sunday we had weather like that with the winds blowing the rain sideways and hail. I thought of hurricanes we'd been through, and even though this was scary, it was small compared to what we went through with Frances, Jeanne and Wilma, Wilma being the worst.

I love all of your flowers and your husband is a dear to pick the peas and shell them for you.

I'm glad you didn't have worse damages to your garden than you did.

At least, we are out of our drought conditions.

Enjoy your lovely gardens. You have some wonderful flowers. I love 4 o'clocks.
