A HOT Bloomin' Tuesday!.......Award

Thank you Tootsie over at http://tootsietime.blogspot.com/ for this special award. (I feel like a rag doll right now) Today will be the 7th day straight with temperatures of 100 or more! Yesterday, 103! My flowers are so sad and I am so tired of dragging garden hoses around. Watering at least 3 times a day. Here are a few things still hanging on.

Brazilion Plume Flower--Jacobina
This is one I rooted over the winter from the first one pictured. It turned out a lighter pink.

Torenia, Begonia, New Guinea Impatiens, Jacobina, Monarda, Sweet Potato Vine.
We all know I planted a package of pink Callas a few years back. Recently I posted one that was yellow, now I have one that is almost white.
Oh the heat is even taking a toll on my full sun garden........
My white Hibiscus plants are still doing okay.
I wonder what this Aloe bloom is going to do or is this it?
Hosta
Phlox, Royal Wave Petunia and Diamond Frost Euphorbia
This is the street side of my full sun garden. This Tipsy Container gets watered about 4 times a day right now.
This is the left side of the Tipsy Container, there is a trellis in the middle with a Jasmine and Blackeyed Susan vine on it.
Marigold, Amaranthus and Dahlia
Abelmoschus manihot
------------------------------------------------------

A couple of photos from Ms. Doris', three doors down.

Even this guy looks hot and tired.

Ms. Doris thinks these Caladiums are ugly because they are so large...not me, I love them.

Ms. Doris has a ton of Hydrangeas. She is so smart to start new ones with cuttings and tuck them all through her gardens, even in containers.

She is so proud of her new container she received for Mother's Day. She will have fun changing it up every season.

It seems strange to my water-restriction trained eye to see such lush growth in that sort of heat!

Lots of lush tropical beauties in your garden Darla. What a heatwave you are having, it cooled off a bit here this week. :)

They all look good despite the heat Darla. I think we might be getting a break soon, at least that's what they said on TV this morning. I hope they are right!

Darla,
This heat has been miserable. I didn't even walk around the garden yesterday. I noticed the grass is also fried to a crisp.--Randy

Girl, I am feeling the heat, too! But your garden doesn't show it. Gorgeous, as always. That aloe and jacobina are my fav's. Do you have to dig them up to over-winter? or do you leave them in the ground? Inquiring minds want to know...

Hot here too. :( My stuff is really feelin' it.

Rain dance at your house, all bloggers should get together tonight.

Hope that the heat breaks soon for you guys.

Darla: Everything is looking beautiful with the extra work.

Keep those glads, Darla! I plant mine at about 8 inches deep, so deep that you think they'll never see the light of day. By the second year, they'll be strong enough to stand on their own. I just love 'em.

Lets cross our fingers and hope it rains this weekend! We desperately need it. I can't afford to water everyday! My neighbors have a well, and I am tempted to gather up 20 water hoses and go hook up to their well to water!

Congrats on the award.
I can't imagine watering 3 times a day. It sounds like it's really hot for a lot of you gardeners in the south. We're back to our usual June.
Your flowers are looking beautiful, from the pictures they don't look affected by the heat so you must be taking good care of them.
Hope it cools down a bit.

Congrats on your award. I can't believe your full sun garden. Awesome! The tipsy pots are really filling out and look great.

The heat has been crazy here too. I LOVE Calla Lilies... are they hard to care for? Beautiful shots!

Darla, I'd love to walk your garden. Lots of variety and color! It's beautiful. The aloe makes a good landing spot for the dragon fly. :) Let's hope the heat wave breaks soon. I went out last evening to visit the daylilies and the humidity was so high that I was drenched in no time. ~~Rhonda

I am about licked by this heat. I can't wait to see what our water bill will be. Even my hibiscus are drooping by the end of the day. We had a huge storm last night and our power was not restored until 10 this morning. All I can say is thank goodness for working air conditioning.

I wouldn't even want to go out to water in that heat! I'd say things are looking pretty good for the high temps.I hope you cool down soon Jean

I feel your pain where the heat is concerned. It was in the hi 80's this AM at 4AM when I got up to go to work.I was sweating while watering the plants when I got home. They're saying maybe rain and a return to normal temps by Thursday. They had better be right!

Aiyana said...

All beautiful! As far as the Aloe, that's all it's going to do. After a few weeks, the flowers will dry up and fall off, leaving the stalk. I don't cut the stalks off until they are all dried out.
I've given up on trying to keep anything going around here. In a couple of days, we'll be at 110, and it will hover there for the next few months. Sigh...

Awesome flower garden in spite of the dry weather. We are dry, too. I was out watering and actually heard thumder, but the cloud passed by us. Hang in there maybe the rains will come.

Darla I can feel your pain. Our temps have been way hot here too. My grass now crunches when you walk on it. We haven't had rain in going on 4 weeks now.

From your photos you plants look great! Can't tell they're stressed at all.

Darla the purple and chartreuse combination in the pot is just so pretty.
My daughter is on vacation around Daytona. She is probably broiled about now. The sand has to be hot, hot hot.

Your flowers are beautiful!

Yikes, that's one mean hot spell! Your flowers look wonderful though, so all of your watering must be paying off.

That is an adorable award!
It's hot here, too. Heat index over 100. And humid. All the rain has dried up and is now time to start watering. I'll be thinking about you as I'm out there with my garden hose.

Carla said...

We are right behind you, and should reach 100 before the week is out. Where is all that rain we were complaining about????? Your garden (and your neighbor's garden) looks so lush and inviting, loving that last yellow hib looking bloom. When my aloe bloomed every one of those buds opened looking like bells:) Have a great week Darla!!!

everything still looks nice despite the heat! It's in the 90's by us right now! Love your bear!

That is so stinking hot! I'm sorry. We had that last year and it was no fun. I too watched my flowers suffer and it killed me. But I think yours look really pretty. I guess you are tired from hauling that hose around and keeping them looking good.

I like Raggedy Ann too and anything else cute like that.

Gosh, I think everything looks unbelievably lush and not water-starved at all! That aloe flower is really pretty.

I can't get over the sod removal in the heat in the last post! I'm sweating just reading it!! Can't wait to see the beautiful garden expansion.
