GBBD and Wednesday Words...

Double Purple Datura--Datura metel is a perennial that will grow 4 to 6 feet with flowers that can reach 12 inches. Leaves and stems are tinted purple. Grows best in filtered sun, water regularly. All parts of this plant are extrememly toxic and should not be ingested in any form. Ingestion of a single leaf can have severe side effects. Some local communities have banned the cultivation of the Datura species.
Impatiens in hubby's old work boot.
One of my Gerbera's...this is true to the color.
Blue Bedder Salvia with tall Marigolds.
White Salvia with Red Salvia.
Morning Glory, Celosia, Hyacinth Bean Vine and Black-Eyed Susan Vine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember my trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, how inspired I became with bringing the "Outside In" for decorating my home Cabin Style?
This was the first photo collection from "A Tranquil Place" the cabin we stayed in.
Here is the second photo collection of Anna Ruby Falls. (Sorry about the glare in the photos)
Here we have some items from the girls trip to Mayfield, Georgia. Old railroad nail, rusty screw, rocks and some coal in an old tin container.
A couple of outdoor photos of the 4 girls. Some of my large pinecones, old bottles and some pieces of wood cut into circles.
Along with gathering outside items, the girls and I have manage to make two pillows and curtains.
This is how I tied the curtains back loosely.
This is the finished area of windows......(we have A LOT of windows). The merlot (red) color in the fabric is the same color as the inside trim of the windows, window seals and the outlet covers.
Honestly, how do you think it's coming together? I still have the fire place to tackle in this room. Once that is complete I'll show the entire room.
I love your windows, perfect to look out on the garden. You all did a great job with the drapes.
I'm still trying to find an old boot to plant something in. I'll have to start asking the guys here at work to save me a worn out one.
Hi Darla. I know about how poisonous Daturas are. That's why I grow them in areas inaccessible to my angel.
Is the Blue Bedder Salvia a perennial. I planted some in the spring (from seed) and they have not flowered. Maybe next year?
The room seems to be coming along just fine. I'll be happy to see the whole room when you're done.
Darla, the titles almost always come after the fact. I take the photo for visual interest. The camera seems to have a will of its own. However, I suspect that it's the subconscious mind at work.
I think it's coming together nicely Darla! I absolutely love the curtains on those windows.
That boot is really cute. Lots of character. I do like the drapes too. Those windows are awesome. I'd probably sit in front of them and dream of being outside when I couldn't be.
I love seeing your displays! They are great! I love the old rail nails...whatever they call them! You could always put a lump of coal in the girls stockings! LOL!
I had no idea Datura was so poisonous, maybe I'll wait on that one. It's such a pretty flower though!
Your room is looking great, I love the curtains on the windows!
What wonderful pix and stories you have today.
Your windows and treatments are dreamy. I love salvia of all kinds simply because the hummingbirds do and want them to stay around.
Nice blooms! I am kind of sorry I didn't let my purple datura set seeds. I was worried about my grandson. Yet, I have foxgloves and other plants that are poisonous. I wonder if there is a list of poisonous plants and the level of toxicity, and what effects they have on people. I have my white moonflowers growing in the veggie garden this year.
The arrangements in your home are lovely, too!
Thanks for your comment on my blog.
I love it Darla! That fabric is elegant and matches the cabin style you are after. Your windows are truly beautiful.
I am country girl myself and your wall of memorabilia is right down my decorating alley. The little table with cherished trinkets is displayed nicely. When I was looking at the table with the coal---I was thinking what pretty curtains ;)
And of course your flowers are looking good.
The windows are wonderful Darla. You have done a great job. I have some of the blue Salvia and I love it. Everything is beautiful as usual, but then, it what I have come to expect! That's one beauty of a Horn Of Plenty!
Hi Darla~~ I've missed you. Your blog is not showing itself on my Faves. I need to investigate.
Beautiful blooms. The Datura is hardy for you isn't it? For me it's a bringer inner. Or a replacer every yearer. The poison element isn't a big deal for me. I'm growing Aconitum. We're talking toxic. LOL.
Your blooms are lovely as always, Darla.
Now on to fix the problem...
The boot with impatiens is so whimsical! :) I love how your living room is coming together with the curtains & your collections. :)
The Datura is a dangerous beauty, but I don't think it should be banned. (I'm as against banning plants as I am against banning books.) The shoe has weathered to such a great patina that it sets off the Impatiens wonderfully. I'm with Marnie in trying to find a suitable old boot. Old Vans just don't make a good planter.
Love the datura. I enjoyed seeing the inside of your house with the curtains and decorations. Whew, that is a lot of curtains you've made already. Great job. I am thinking of making some but it has to wait til winter.
Leedra said...
I like the curtains you made. I would never attempt that. You are such a little homemaker. I was wondering the other day, what happened about the surgery? Did you have it, and I missed that? Thought you were suppose to have it while the kids were out of school for the summer.
Hi Darla, I am loving your new decorating scheme. The block of windows with your treatments is just gorgeous. Great datura too. Thanks for sending me over to Chucks. I usually visit him but have been super busy trying to get ready for our beach vacation and wasn't online much. I appreciate your thinking of me. :-)
