Skywatch Friday

I went to the bus stop to get our daughter and this Hawk was sitting on a cable line. I drove back home to get my camera and he was still sitting there ! ! Our skies have been mosty gray with some blue now and then....
More rain and cold weather headed our way...it may freeze tonight. Jack Frost had so much fun running over our roof and through my gardens I guess he wants to come back, sigh..

Those are some great pictures of that hawk Darla. I had one in my back yard a couple of weeks ago and the next thing I knew he was flying away with a squirrel he had caught!

Great shot. It's interesting how the Cooper's hawks seem to be prevelent this week, not just in one area but all across the country.

Great shots of the hawk. I see them flying a lot but almost never get a chance to photograph them sitting still.

Darla ~ Love your pics. I keep trying to get some of the one(s) that around here, but not yet.

I hope you will be with me on the new blog.

I tell you, it has been a challenge not feeling well (been a long 4 months) & forcing oneself to get things done. TY for stopping by.

I am glad you won on the header. That is a great close up of the Hawk. Fruit for Christmas is an old childhood memory. The cold got my daisys so will have to watch your garden flowers. The rabbits ate my pansies so I have no color to look at.

I saw your comment on Fishing Guy's that you had a hawk photo. I see he did identify it as a Cooper's Hawk. I have one that resides near my front yard somewhere. :)
Excellent shots!

Congrats on the header win!!!

Nice pictures of him! I'm pretty sure it's a Red-shouldered Hawk rather than a Coopers though.
You can tell by the black and white barring on the wings and the yellowish cere (the skin around the base of the bill). The Red-shouldered in florida is a sub-species that has a grayer head, which makes it look a little more like a cooper's slaty cap. Really pretty bird either way, nice of him to let you get so close!

we have a lot of hawks here ...they are sitting on fence posts in the country all the time...not so much in the city tho...Our skies are fairly gloomy here the last week or so...I can't wait for the sun to shine...even if it makes driving in a white snow covered city hard!

Lucky you to be spying on the hawk spying on his dinner. Thanks for adding to the Sky Watch Friday party.

I just spooked one out of our backyard -- didn't know he was there. You got a nice photo.

Great captures! Isn't it nice when you have your camera at the ready at times like this?

You mentioned someone posting how to grow holiday cactus. I forgot to check, but I'm thinking I put a link to a site that said how to grow them, but I'm not sure. I had this one in my garden window, where it got into the lower 60s or upper 50s, which is what you are supposed to do. Also, you are supposed to have it in a place where it is dark in the evenings and overnight. We don't use the room much in the evenings, so I provided that, too.

It's funny, because I was looking up what to do in order to get it to bloom, thinking I was going to have to put it in the dark or something. I didn't realize until I noticed buds on it, that I had already provided what it needed. I read where it needs to be in a warmer spot once it gets blooms, so I put it in another room where it's warmer. I repotted it this summer in a potting soil that has fertilizer in it, but haven't added any fertilizer since then.
