Bloomin' Tuesday...Dramatic Weekend!

It's time to join http://msgreenthumbjean.blogspot.com/ for Bloomin' Tuesday..

Hidden Ginger

Mexican Sunflower
Giant Liriope with Red Spider Zinnia
Malva Zebrina
Balloon Flower and Vinca

There have been a least 2 deaths around here due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV)

It is a rare disease that is spread to horses and humans among the most serious group of mosquito-borne virus diseases. It can affect the central nervous system causing severe complications and even death. Symptoms: sudden onset of headache, high fever, chills and vomiting. Use your bug repellant!!

Saturday night we had the most severe thunderstorms I have ever witnessed. Our neighborhood got struck several times. One barn, where collectable ammo was stored was struck and burned to the ground...very loud and scary! Wells were struck, septic systems, a lot of electronics. Some neighbors had framed photos, shelves and light bulbs shatter in their homes. Praise the Lord we only had one photo fall from the wall and it did not break!!

The little boy that I refer to as Sidekick, whom I have kept for 11 years was attacked by a pit bull also on Saturday. As fas as anyone knows the pit was 5 years old and the last rabies shot on record was when he was 1 year old. The owner shot the dog to have it sent for testing...only to find out that the place lost power so the tissue in the dogs head is no longer good for testing. At this point it looks as if Sidekick will have to go through the vaccination for rabies. I do hope and pray that some miracle will come about so he will not have to endure that procedure.

I am busy, busy, busy preparing for my daughter's wedding and getting the girls ready for the new school year. My visiting is hit and miss per say, I do hope that you will continue to stop by and leave a comment..I will get around to seeing what all I have missed in your gardens!

Today I am Thankful to be able to write this post.

Excellent newsy post. I hope Sidekick doesn't have to endure the rabies shot. Poor baby was already bit. I've always thought there should be a better way to deal with dogs and rabies and such.

I found you through Gail at Clay and Limestone who gave you some link love as she did me.

Congrats on your daughter getting married.~~Dee

That's a lot to get hit with all of a sudden. Those storms sound terrible, and ammo in a barn? That just seems very odd.

Awful about the little boy getting attacked. Do you have cases of rabies in your area? Had a pit bull show up at my house Sat and hang around until Monday. Lucky there aren't any kids in the area.

It does sound like a dramatic weekend! I'm not a fan of Pitt bulls. It seems that more than any other breed they are the one's to bite people. At least the owner was responsible in the end although he should be the one to pay for all the medical expenses for the boy.

Bless you sweetheart. That is a lot to deal with in a weekend. My prayers that Sidekick will not have to endure the treatments for rabies. I do not like pit bulls. Hate to hear about the storm but as we know here in the south sometime the lightning is horrible. Glad you didn't have any damage.

I know it is a lot of work but maybe fun work getting ready for a wedding. All the hard work will pay off when you have so many beautiful photos to look back on.

This is an exciting time of year with everyone getting ready for school again! I just started picking up a few supplies for my grandson, yesterday! You sure have beautiful blooms here, and I always wonder how you do all that you do! You are a Wonder Woman!!!

Darla, I'm so sorry about Sidekick! I always thought the dog was to be penned and kept alive to see if he had rabies.

Darla, I have a Ginger plant like that. The first time I saw it bloom, the bloom came up in the spring, before the foliage!! This year, I only have the big leaves, so far.

Blessing on you as you go thru all your wedding plans, as well as all of your trials and troubles.

Wow that was a dramatic weekend. I'm glad that your home wasn't affected. I guess our thunderstorms are nothing compared to the ones you get there. I hope Sidekick will be okay, that must've been really scary. There used to be a pitbull running lose in our neighborhood a lot, it drove me crazy that I had to keep my kids in because somebody else thought it was no big deal for their dog to be lose.
That ginger flower is just beautiful! That's one I wish I could grow here.

Oh Darla, I am so glad you did not get any damage from the storm. Sounds scary. Poor Sidekick. I hear the shots are painful so hope he doesn't have to go through that. You are going to be a busy lady.
BTW, thanks so very much for the hollyhock seeds. I am very grateful and appreciate you for sending them. Thanks Darla.

That was some scary lightning! My daughter called me when she saw all the emergency vehicles going past her house and started smelling the smoke. I was worried about you, but then I saw online that it was a barn that burned down. That's just awful about Sidekick. I hope he doesn't have to go through the vaccinations. I know how busy you must be with the wedding, but remember to enjoy yourself Darla!

I hope Sidekick does not have to have the rabbies vaccine, though I have heard that it is not quite as bad now as when we were kids. I will keep him in my prayers. It is during tough times that gardening becomes my refuge!

That is a beautiful ginger flower. Love your Mexican sunflower. I tried go grow that from seed here this year, but it really did not like our cold, wet spring. Poor little seedlings were probably hoping for weather a little more like Mexico! I hear the butterflies love that flower though, so I may try again next year.

So scary about the pit bull and the thunderstorms. I don't think I have ever been through a thunderstorm where the vibrations actually shook stuff off walls.

Weddings are so fun! Hope all your work is appreciated.

What an awful weekend it has been for you! I do pray that things get better around your place. You sure have endured your share of drama for a bit. Poor child being bitten by the pit bull. I am an avid animal lover but get upset every time I hear of such attack of Pit Bulls on human life. I feel so sorry for the child having to undergo all those shots and the scare as well. If only people were more responsible for their pets. We humans domesticated the dogs and cats therefore; we should take better care of them. I wish laws were stricter for animal owners. It would be better for the animals as well as humans...

Today, I am thankful you are a strong person to deal with the things you have lately…

You have had a scary time lately haven't you? I will keep Sidekick in my prayers. The dog owner must be distraught as well as Sidekick and his family. I would feel awful if my dog bit anyone. And doubly awful if I hadn't kept up with his shots. Your garden is lovely as always. The hidden ginger is beautiful. Those Mexican sunflowers really draw in the butterflies don't they? I planted seeds for them this year for the first time. They were a success. Enjoy all the preparations for the wedding and remember to slow down and enjoy the wedding too. Every single minute of it. My only daughter's wedding is a very sweet memory for me. I loved everything about it.

Hope this next week is a calmer one for you.

I can't believe the storm you must of had. Amazing!

So sorry to hear about Sidekick having to undergo rabies shots.I will put him on my prayer list.

Darla, You have been bombarded with nasty news...so sorry about Sidekick. I will pray for his healing and that the tests are done quickly. Pitt bulls should all be destroyed. They are sure miserable animals. So sad.
Good luck with the wedding preparations. I have a wedding cake to make for the 14th for my niece. I'm praying this heat and humidity lets up as it is an all outdoor wedding.

I think pit bulls should be eradicated from the face of the earth. I get so tired of people defending them. So many of them turn from Jekyll to Hyde instantly.
I do hope he doesn't have to endure the procedure, too!
I think that same storm blew through here last week. It hit our neighbor's well.
Must have a thing for water wells!

I hope Sidekick is doing OK. Did he end up having to get the shots? I hope he is able to get help with the trauma from being attacked by the dog. I'd be afraid to walk down the sidewalk.
