Lovely winter color! I've used both epsom salts and coffee grounds on my roses, as well as just about every other plant in the garden, not on a regular schedule or anything, though.
Oh --can't wait til spring gets to us.. I'm so ready to see some Crocus, some Hyacinths, some Daffodils.... CANNOT wait--but I have to. We are still having a cold winter here --with more snow on the way.

I can't tell you how awesome it is to see some COLOR. Fantastic photos! Have no comment on the roses since I can never grow them successfully in my water logged soil.
Wouldn't it be just horrible to know you had to walk away from all of this...? Lovely flowers...and yes, I have used coffee grounds around my roses. :)
What a special guardian angel for your greenhouse. She must love hanging out there. You have lots of color going on now. Surely, there is spring coming soon.
I put used coffee grounds into my compost heap and I use the compost everywhere in the garden. I've read about using epsom salts but have never done so. It'll be interesting to see what answers you get to this question.
Darla, I love your header photo! I don't know about epsom salts but, I can't wait to find out! I add coffee grounds to the compost pile and occasionaly to acid loving plants. gail
Epsom salts are supposed to release magnesium and trace elements into the soil when it's too cool to do it naturally. The best time to add them is now. They work really well on roses, about half a cup per rose. ... Love your header photo! And all the other photos too for that matter. :)
Forgot the coffee grounds: I put them in my compost pile. Red worms love them. I suppose you could add them directly to the soil but I've never done this.
Darla, All I do to my roses is cut them back severely in late January, and water them maybe 2-3 times a year if they are looking really bad in late summer. I've tried putting some compost and fertilizer around the base, but couldn't tell it made a difference. Roses are pretty easy to grow here as long as you don't mind some minor black spot (doesn't seem to affect flowering).
On a totally unrelated note, I would LOVE some of your hidden ginger for my family garden! I didn't know about that plant, but see on davesgarden that it can grow here. It looks so cool! E-mail me and we can work out the details - ginger_gibson at comcast.net Thank you SO MUCH for the offer :-)
Oh my goodness is all this blooming now at your place? Beautiful! I know Bob puts epsom salts around the rhodies but haven't heard of him doing it on the roses. Guess I'll tell him. I also put the coffee grounds in our compost. Love your angel. I use to make one really similar. I hate that I sold all these things to everyone else and never kept much of my work for myself. Dang!
Love all the color, such a nice change from our incessant white here. Down way below zero tonight, but a warm up to 37 degrees is on the way for the weekend. It will feel downright balmy! (and I am of no help with the roses again) ;'(
Well I have never heard of using anything like that on my roses. So what does it do? I am anxious to see all of the answers to this question. Love all of your pics.
Ah, beautiful colors and while looking at them the sun popped out and shine through the windows over my desk. I think the heavens above are talking to me!
I put coffee grounds in the compost pile along with all other kitchen waste of “no meat” products.
Looks like you have good advice for your roses. I have no luck with roses therefore, none in my gardens. My grandmother had a beautiful Rose Garden and I am sure she is rolling in her grave over the fact that her gardening grandchild does not have a single rose in the garden. But another of her grandchildren, my brother has great luck with beautiful roses each year…
Different type flower and wonderful garden because there are natural activity and usable garden. There are different type flower in garden and we can enjoy it.

Oh, how pretty to brighten this day. We use neither ... had not heard of doing this. Hmmmm ... what do you know that I don't know, Darla.

What a sweet angel Darla. Yellow crocus always looks so cheery. I really like your red and white dianthus.
Please tell me why you'd use these things around your roses?
Thanks for the beautiful color. This is so welcome in my winter world.

I hadn't heard of putting coffee grounds round roses. I'd thought they were an anti-slug device. (Though unattractive ? ? ?)
When we had open fires, ash would be put round the roses and, before that, manure left by horses in the street. (There, that dates me!)

Love the idea of the greenhouse guardian angel!
Maybe if I put one of those at my garden it will do better this year. LOL

Beautiful color Darla! Thanks for sharing, spring is trying to show up in Seattle, but we don't have your color YET.
