Preparing For Spring...Other Than Seed Sowing...

For those of you suffering from winter doldrums, winter blues or as Skeeter put it over at http://tinaramsey.blogspot.com , Seasonal Affective Disorder aka SAD here are a few things you can do inside to prepare for spring.
Purchased a decorative wood birdhouse for a dollar. With some paint and moss I now have a cute little accent to add to my gardens, shelf or a container. A few metal pails before...pails are shown after painting in the photos below.
A pinecone out of the yard, a paper ball for a dollar some glue and moss.
One of the pails after sponging on different colors of paint and a few light strokes with some sand paper.
A piece of my Rosemary from the garden....I'm working on a small Rosemary Tree.
Just dug up some struggling Thyme and potted it up in another painted pail...yes, that's a painted fork in the pail with some moss on it.

If I can't find the right herb for this pail, perhaps some pink Painted Daisies would look nice.
Old plastic container from the dollar store that was repainted last Spring....

is now spruced up again for this Spring.
A plain terra cotta pot covered in moss.
Last but not least....I have some Angels that my Mom and Dad made some twenty years ago. They were decorated for Christmas. The one in my last post in the greenhouse, my SIL had and redone it with a gardening theme and gave it back to me. I just fell in love with it and had to redo one for one of my most Dear Friends....it will be in the mail next week...
Ya'll that are looking outside at a blanket or perhaps a quilt of snow..start working on your containers and little container art so when Spring arrives you'll be ready to plant them up and set them out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I am Thankful for that Dear Friend who sent me a book with great inspirational tips from the gardening shed.
Beautiful post, Darla... I love that Garden angel... How wonderful!!!!! Your post makes me yearn for Spring. But--we'll have to wait a little longer since it was 16 degrees when we got up this morning and about an inch of snow on the ground. Brrrrrr...
Love you painted pots....Love the moss additions also.
Hugs,
Betsy
Darla you are soooooooooo creative. I know where there is a bunch of moss across the street in this little area of trees. Think if it warms up I'll go get some. I have 2 pots exactly like the one you painted from the dollar store. I think I re-painted mine last year.
Thanks for some great ideas.
These are all wonderful! I love the mossy fork, something about it just tickles me. And the angel. I have an old wooden Christmas one, maybe I'll repurpose it. I had plans to attempt to mosaic a birdbath this winter, but it is passing way too fast!
Great post Darla. If you can't get outside - bring the outside in. Love the pots. Great job on painting them. The moss looks like it's been there forever. You are so clever.
Thanks for these wonderful suggestions for combating SAD. Now if I only had your artistic talent ...
Oh gosh Darla, you are so creative! I love everything in these pictures. I have been staying down the road from you this week helping my daughter while her hubby is out of town and having fun with my grandbabies. Had a slight mishap yesterday morning though in front of Canopy Oaks when I stepped in a hole, sprained my ankle, twisted my knee and landed sprawled out on the ground and couldn't get up. Fortunately (and quite embarrassingly too) there were plenty of people there to help me. Nothing was broken, but today I am moving very slowly!
Look at you all crafty today. Those all look great. It's nice to do those projects before it gets busy in the garden.
I love all of your ideas! I guess when we are cold, think warm, right? Love your goodies. It won't be long we will all be complaining about it being too hot!
How very wonderful you did a post to cheer us all up! Those are some wonderful containers. I think my favorite has to be the painted 'Corona' metal bucket. It looks like fun!
Your work with the pails and the moss is very delightful and ideal for the dark days before spring. I especially like the pinkish pail and the most covered pot.
Love all these Darla, and that bird box with a living roof.
You have made some really nice containers. The moss is an especially nice touch. Repurposing Christmas angels as garden angels is an outstanding idea. The part I like best is that you actually created the objects. I usually just get an idea, collect supplies and.....
Your garden is a beautiful reflection of your creativity.
Great ideas, Darla Dear!! So much better to actually do something instead of just complaining about the weather, right? Or maybe we do something and still complain about the weather. :)
Darla, these are very clever and I love the shabby look.
I came over to tell you that I'd like your blog listed on Best Garden Blogs. You do have one of the very best and I'd love for you to join.
Just sign up and then let me know so I can make you an author--then you can post about your website. Some people choose to write articles weekly and others only keep their blogs listed there.
Warmest wishes,
Anna
Awww, thanks for thinking of me during this post! Funny how bloggers are on the mind during our daily jaunts. How ironic you mention the birdhouse. That is one of the projects I have yet to tackle. I found small houses at the Dollar Tree and had planned to create something neat while fighting the Winter Blues but the Blues got the best of me the past few months. But I am a fighter and will do my best to get those houses out of the closet and paint them up a bit... Thanks for the motivation....
