GBB, CFT and FF

Please join GBBD over at http://maydreamsgardens.blogspot.com/ on the 15th of every month. I am also using this post for Cottage Flora Thursday at http://fishtailcottage.blogspot.com/ and FF at http://tootsietime.blogspot.com/ There are a lot of beautiful blooms, plants and ideas at these parties! Not going to complain about how hot and dry it is in North Florida, it is however, 79F - 21.1 C at 4:30 in the a.m. Broke the record again yesterday....102F - 38.8C ......

On the other side of the Brugmansia that I showed yesterday are yellow blooms. Will see if they stay yellow.

Zinnia - Red Spider reseeded from last year, in the most random places.

Double Day Lily--not my favorite..

Hydrangea-- Mophead is still showing off...just can't help but think of grandparents when I see the blue ones.

The Torenia--Wishbone, are back. Everywhere again!

Salvia--Black and Blue

The next two photos are of Clematis that bloomed their petals off early spring. Here they are trying to bloom again despite the heat.

Dianthus

Echinacea-Purple Coneflower--I don't have any of the newer fancy ones, yet. These are from my mother's garden.

Pentas

Here's the Crape Myrtle I mentioned yesterday.

Jacobina

I will be taking cuttings from these heat tolerant plants !

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I am Thankful for the A/C .
Darla it's a wonder you're even in the mood to take photo's outside when you have to venture into temps like that. Despite the temperatures there still are alot of beauties in flower. I've never seen a double daylily before but like you I much prefer the single types.
Deb said...
beautiful photos...very thankful for the a/c...
Twisted Fencepost said...
That jacobina is really pretty.
Still hot up here, but yesterday was a little cooler than it has been.
Cyndy said...
Lots of really nice blooms despite the weather! Heat tolerant is the way to go - no worries about wilting, at least not the plants :)
tina said...
Lucky you to have torenia everywhere. It is one of my favorite annuals and I have none:(
Ruth Hiebert said...
Let me say,I'm happy to be viewing your gardens via the computer,as those temperatures would keep me close to the AC.I don't do well in heat.Your flowers are still gorgeous.
Wow what a variety of blooms, love that double day lily . You can throw it out my way any day. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Love your garden fellow and all your beautiful blooms that are defying the hot summer heat.
Heather at Dusty Bay said...
Ooo that's hot there! Your blooms look great and so does the fella!
Carolyn @ Carolyn's Shade Gardens said...
I have wasted so much money on the new colors of coneflower. I noticed that this year, I have one that's come back. I am sure it will be gone next year. If they don't die outright, they have a nasty virus that deforms the flowers. I don't recommend them. Despite your heat you have some pretty flowers.
Rose said...
And I thought it was hot here when we had temps in the mid-90's last week! Thanks for braving the heat to share these photos with us, Darla. Seeing your Black and Blue salvia makes me wistful--I wasn't able to find any of it in the garden centers here this year. Of course, it's an annual in my zone 5 garden, so I have to replace it each year. I don't have any of the fancier coneflower hybrids either, but the old-fashioned ones are my favorite anyway. Happy GBBD!
dorothy said...
Your plants are looking great in spite of the heat. My brugmansia usually shut down when it gets too hot. We have had very mild weather here this June although the more typical 90's and triple digits are coming!
Danielle said...
Love black and blue salvia, it's one of my favorite (annuals here). you have a beautiful garden!
Anonymous said...
Are you watering your hydrangea? I have, and only then got blooms. Usually the bush is covered. You encourage me to plant salvia next year. I love it! Thanks for sharing! Soon, soon we will have rain.
Prospero said...
Hi Darla!
Lovely photos... the Jacobina is eye-catching. I'm growing a Justicia specie from Africa. I'm waiting for it to bloom.
Lola said...
Love all your blooms. So pretty even in this awful heat.
I use to have the torenia, 3 colors a few yrs back. I really need to get them started again. I also had the black & blue salvia.
Today is supposed to be a bad one again for the heat.
Christine @ the Gardening Blog said...
I love your Clematis! Both are lovely.
Happy GBBD!
You have lovely flowers even in the heat! I love your blue hydrangia.
A lot of great blooms for such hot temps you'e been experiencing... I can't imagine how you keep up with it all in such heat! L
Lisa at Greenbow said...
Wow Darla you have had some hideous hot weather. Despite it all you have some gorgeous blooms. Those brugs are always a treat to see. Happy GBBD.
Lisa at Greenbow said...
P.S. I meant to tell you that I just love that header photo. It is such fun to see the clear-wing moths working over flowers. I was looking through some older posts. I saw a shrimp plant. It reminds me of the one I kept for years as a house plant. Cheers.
imac said...
As always Darla you are the Queen of the Garden, also love the 1st shot.
GRACE PETERSON said...
I wish we could grow Pentas year round here. Yours are gorgeous. I love the old fashioned echinacea. Your clemmies are GORGEOUS! Love your person sitting on the chair. Is he/she named?
Christina said...
What beautiful blooms you have in your garden. It seems early for Echinacea, I grew some from seed this spring but I don't intend planting them out until the autumn rains. Christina
You have some really lovely blooms in spite of the heat. I'm afraid summer is here and we won't have cool weather again until Oct-Nov, if we're lucky.
Hi and thanks for visiting my blog! So happy to have found yours. You have so many beautiful things blooming. I particularly love the Black and Blue Salvia - such a striking color. The Brugmansia is another favorite, but its a tropical here and frankly, I don't have the space for it. I can almost smell it through the computer though!
organicgardendreams said...
Wow, you really have hot weather! Somehow it doesn't seem to be so hot in your photos. Lovely blooms and so many! Thanks for sharing!
I am surprised that you can grow clematis so well, hadn't thought that they would make it in such a hot climate!
Lovely blooms, Darla. The Jacobina is beautiful! Your posts always meke me lust after tropicals. Then I think of 100 degree weather and am not quite so lustful.
Beautiful post...I'm such a fan of the old-fashioned coneflowers...the new ones don't do much for me...and they are apparently not nearly as hardy.
Janet, The Queen of Seaford said...
Love the blooms, but I tell you ~~~ that garden lady sculpture/ topiary is a hoot!
Anonymous said...
You have many GBBD palnts , but the last one I really love. Pretty sure I can't grow it here as I never heard of it. The garden lady is so cool. A great addition, so creative and fun.
Catherine@AGardenerinProgress said...
That is hot. It's hard not to complain about the weather when it is so extreme. We had pouring rain and in the high 50's today. I guess we are skipping spring altogether.
I'm really impressed with how good your Hydrangea looks in that heat, mine wilt when it gets above 80. Love the Brugmansia!!
Robin's Nesting Place said...
I love your header picture! I agree with the others, I am impressed that you ventured out into the heat to share pictures of your garden. I can't imagine what August will be like!
Thank you for your comment on my potting bench!
Phillip Oliver said...
So hot here too but your flowers look happy! We got a smidge of rain tonight which was welcome.
Julie said...
Yes, it seems plants are so limited down here due to the heat. You do want to take cuttings of anything that can live!!! Gorgeous gardens, Darla!
I love all your beautiful flowers but that topiary lady in the garden is awesome!!! I LOVE it! So creative!
Wow, 107 is pretty warm. It was around 90 today and it was HOT!
Hi Darla,
I love your greeter and your mother's coneflowers. I got some from an elderly neighbor lady when we first moved to our house, about 13 years ago. I wish I would have remembered what she said about not getting the newer kind of coneflowers because they would blend in with the old ones, and then, the original native ones would be lost. I no longer have the ones she gave me, and the ones I do have lots of seedlings and year old plants that are surprises from the one I have planted in the past.
Some of the blooms have had red centers, and misshapen blooms. It may be that aster yellows, or whatever the disease is called. I need to look into that. Some of the 'Prairie Splendor' blooms are looking like that.
I love that last pink bloom, too.
Wow, you posted at 4:30 AM in the morning?! I am not a morning person, but in those rare time, if I got up early, I really enjoy the fresh air and the garden much more than in the blazing sun :)
I tried to grow some Echinacea-Purple Coneflower from seeds last year, and the seedling seems never grow bigger, and eventually died. Not sure if it is something that not suitable for South Florida?? Yours is beautiful.
I also have that same Brugmansia as yours. when they are not fully open, they are yellow, and then become pink when they open. Very neat. Love it!
Hi Darla - Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. Your Echinacea are lovely. Mine are still all green and I can't wait for the blooms to turn color. Glad to hear that you seen bees. They are definitely in the minority around here.
Love your brugmansias, Darla! How beautiful they are. The crepe myrtle is also pretty. You have a lovely garden. Thanks for sharing.
Too hot for me, but then I'm finding myself hiding inside from the mosquitos. Brugmansia is such an exotic bloom, I hope yours stays yellow, that's a beautiful shade. The straight species of Echinacea seem to be preferred by the bees, as your photo indicates. Mine are starting to form buds.
