A plan and tests are in place. I imagine a huge circle of pink flowering plants grown around the swing area. They must be grown at a distance so that the plants are not touched/kicked even with the hardest push of the swing.

I see an area being set aside as a private little retreat that you can have some shade from the trees as you sit out there on a bench out of the way to watch those on the swing and at the same time be able to view the lovely flowers surrounding you.

Looks like you are creating a play area which you will surround with patio/outdoor furniture and potted plants around. Love the photos!...Christine

Great photos of family fun. I'm going to say you've figured out what you want to do with the wooded area. Clearing some of the limbs and trees makes way for a fun circle of family activities like swinging. AND you're making it pretty by lasagna layering the grass/weeds and planting some pink impatiens. Whatever it is I know your sweet family will make the most of it! Meems

Once upon a time there were two flats of burgeoning PINK impatiens. Feeling crowded in their crib, they whispered to their new owner Darla-Dear, "We'd look lovely in a circle under the trees out there, don't you think? Darla-Dear thought, "Yes you would!" Meanwhile Rusty was out among those same trees, fiddling with a rope swing, hoping to keep just a teensy bit of his growing daughter Rebekah's youthful exuberance alive. Darla-Dear had other ideas for her growing daughter who wanted money for school clothes. And so goes the balance between frivolity and responsibility. :)

I see that a swing just went into the tree and you are creating a garden area. Perhaps a rose garden but definately a garden. You are blessed to have that nice 15 year old there in your home. Tell her I said so and that I'm coming to see you soon - real soon. I'll send you an email.

It appears that a special place in the shade, to rest and relax, dreaming while swinging and looking above at the canopy of leaves rustling in the breezy blue sky, is in the making. Soon grass will grow underfoot, surrounded by the shade-loving pink impatiens, and native ferns dancing in the back room. Between the two trees to the right of the swing, a hammock may soon rock you to sleep as you and your family rest from the day's toil in the soil. Do not forget the cool mint julep to quench your thirst as you dream of adding the sound of water trickling down the ledge before the flowers.
Such an awesome R&R room you are adding. Love that inquisitive smile.

Impatiens waiting patiently while people play, prepare, and get ready to plant the pretty plants. Phew. Well-done people!

Darla: This is the perfect place for these flowers.
Hubby: This is where the swing has to go. Just check out that tree.
Daughter: I'll help Dad with the area. I want a swing.

Neat photos Darla.

Darla,

The swing is for the daughter. The mulch is padding for under the swing and to prevent weeds. The impatiens are for the nice trail leading to the swing area.

Okay, here goes: Time to plant impatiens, oh, wait, that tree has to come down or at least lightened of branches no, wait, it is perfect for the installation of a swing, yes, a swing which is perfect in this dappled light, give me a push honey, that's it,back to lasagna layering so the weeds won't push through and now, what in the world will I do with all these empty plastic mulch bags?

Darla had some lovely pink impatience, ready to plant in the lasagna garden that she had carefully prepared. Hubby decided he wanted a swing for daughter so up it went and daughter was happy. But Darla told daughter that in order to swing she needed to finish the lasagna garden preparation. So she did. And then she planted her impatience all around the outskirts of it. And Darla, hubby & daughter lived happily ever after;-)

Your daughter wanted a rope swing, so Dad said if you help your Mom with starting another new garden I'll climb up and put the rope swing in for you.
