Bloomin' Tuesday...

Drop by http://msgreenthumbjean.blogspot.com to see what other gardeners have blooming today.

Double Althea--Rose of Sharon
Single
BES Vine
Double Knock Out Roses
Grandpa Ott's Morning Glory
Dusty and Susan

Celosia

African Marigold
Hosta, Coleus, Alyssum and Impatiens
Zinnias, Joseph's Coat Amaranthus to the left in front of the Mexican Bush Sage.
Susans popped up in the Alyssum
Still have some Dahlias blooming
Dracaena, Ornamental Potato Vine, Sunpatiens and Joseph's Coat Amaranthus...Amaranthus will turn more yellow and red the more sun it receives like in the photo with the Zinnias.

More heat on the way today. It was 78 degrees at 6 a.m. this morning, the heat index has been between 104 and 110. I am still not able to garden like I want to and many of my plants have been neglected. My arm is improving, although I am still not allowed to pick up anything with my left hand and I have to continue to wear the wrist brace. I say all that to say this, I am learning which plants are determined to live in my gardens despite the heat and some neglect.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I am Thankful for those plants, really!
Your garden looks like it is doing great in spite of your need to step back some from its care. I think you have ID'd a mystery plant of mine - the celosia. Mine doesn't have any blooms though. Could be because I've been snipping it and making more plants from it. I love the red foliage. Is it an annual? Does it seed if I let it bloom?
Looks like you have lots of plants that don't mind the heat. Stay cool. It's been really hot here too.
Hi Darla,
I am loving that Joseph's Coat Amaranthus...such interesting foliage!
Has your BES vine grown very much? I have been thinking of trying one up an arbor, but it would need to grow at least eight feet tall. So I need something pretty aggressive for an annual. Is yours growing up a trellis?
Very pretty garden! I am amazed to see hosta growing in Florida. Your rose of sharon collection is beautiful! I used to grow those in Atlanta. I like your dracaenas, and that morning glory photo is gorgeous!
Darla, you really have a lot of old faithful plants that love to grow in your yard, even when you don't feel like tending them. They look great. Praying that you will soon be able to enjoy working in your yard.
So pretty! Thanks for the walk with your "friends".
Hi Darla, you have to love those plants that can take care of themselves. From time to time, I've really appreciated those plants with a strong will to live.
Love the double altheas. I have Grandpa Ott to and somehow the seeds are sprouting a couple hundred feet from the original plant:) The old boy has got a few moves left in him:)
Oh, now I see that double althea flower in your garden, which you identified for me in my China community landscape post a couple of weeks ago! Very pretty.
I also have that african marigold in my garden, started from seeds, perfroming real well. I love the sweet potato vines in the container with Dracaena spike in the center, nice contrast!
Being in north florida, you seem be able to plant lots of things that we can not grow in south florida, such as hosta, and Dahlias.
Hi Darla, I always love seeing your garden... It doesn't look neglected to me... We have had horrendous heat and dry conditions up here also this summer--which is rare for us...
Love the double Rose of Sharon.... AND--Zinnias and Dahlias are pretty hearty --and beautiful... Coleus certainly adds color, doesn't it???
Have a good day and take care of that arm.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi Darla. Your double Rose of Sharon is so pretty. I like the one pink color a lot more than my two toned ones. The Morning Glory is just gorgeous !
Your gardens look despite the heat. Your gardens don't look neglected but you know what you are used to doing. I know it is hard to be limited. One of these days I'll have to get mine elbow done but not before it swells for another year or so.
I love how you captured the light in the picture of the morning glories! I love the rose of sharons; so very pretty!
You may not be able to do much in the garden, but it still looks wonderful. The heat hasn't been quite as bad up here, but it is still pretty miserable.
Take care of yourself.
Darla, I'm glad to hear your arm is improving. I know what you mean about neglect. I haven't spent time in the garden until today since the garden tour. It appears yours is doing well without you! Jean
Your Rose of Sharon is gorgeous, as are all your beautiful blooms!
Everything looks so lush in your gardens, well except for the bug infested ones. I have holes in all my potato plants and no matter what I spray on them, they just keep getting more holes. Something is munching down on them big time. Your poor hibiscus, I hope the cat turns out to be a fun butterfly or moth for you to enjoy. The Red really pops on the chairs! The new addition is wonderful and Jenny will be so happy there. Get back to 100% soon :-) Today: I am thankful for the children on this earth. They bring such joy to our life…
I am amazed at how determined some plants are to grow even when they are neglected. You have so many wonderful blooms in your lovely garden. Thanks so much for taking the time to share them with us.
I would love to be able to grow the rose of sharon! We're just too hot here in the central part.
It sure seems like all of your flowers love your garden despite your heat. Here even the Coneflowers start to wilt in the 80's, guess they get the same way as the people around here that can't handle the heat. I love that Dahlia! None of mine came back this year.
Love the Black-eyed Susan Vine. Mine has yet to make a bud, and I'm not sure why. I'll just enjoy the vicarious pleasure of yours instead. :)
Lovely garden, Darla, especially considering the terrible conditions you're having in this heat!
Hi Darla. Yes I wanted some of your pink double hollyhock seeds. Thanks so much!!!
Darla: Your flowers are just beautiful. Very cool header, I never thought about all the work you have to put in to have these flowers.
Beautiful shot of Grandpa Ott's, and I love the color of your dahlias. I'll have to see if any of mine do anything this fall. They are looking very pitiful/ ugly now.
Kylee Baumle said...
Darla, your flowers are so pretty and look like they're surviving the heat very well! Mine...not so much. It almost makes me wish for fall (but not what comes after).
There are always morning glory's blooming around here, but come to think of it, I don't remember seeing any this year. Maybe it's just because I haven't had time to look for them.
Note to self: Make time to see the glory's!
